Bridging the Gap

Inventions created from university research are rarely market-ready. In order to attract industry to such early stage technologies, additional work is required, such as:

  • Advancement of hypothesis testing – test an idea or prediction with in vitro experiments, extend in vitro results with in vivo experiments, or demonstrate a CAD/CAM design with a bench prototype;
  • Target validation – screen small molecule libraries, produce antibodies, or select target-binding peptides or aptamers; or
  • Pre-commercial research – validate academic software code for commercial application, formulate a drug or vaccine for delivery, or develop alternative applications for technology or indications for therapeutic compounds.

Two grant programs are available to help UT inventors bridge the gap between the bench and the shelf, and advance UT inventions towards commercialization.

POCsparc:

STTM announces the first request for proposals for POCsparc (Proof of Concept, short proposal to accelerate research commercialization). The objective of POCsparc is to bridge the gap between invention disclosure and marketable technology. Proposals must be submitted to STTM by Friday, April 18th. Click here for more information.

TIF:

UT System Office of Research and Technology Transfer announces a recurring request for proposals for the Texas Ignition Fund (TIF), which aims to speed the commercialization of inventions created by UT faculty.  Proposals should be submitted to STTM by Friday, April 18th; RFPs will recur bi-monthly.
