UT Health Science Center San Antonio
X-Ray Safety Program

X-rays are regulated by the Texas Department of State Health Services, Radiation Control, in Texas Administrative Code (TAC), Title 25, §289.226- §289.233 (the Code). The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, in order to comply with the Code, has established a X-ray Safety Program. The purpose of the Program is to provide clear guidance for the use of regulated x-rays.

As required by the Code, Radiation Safety maintains an inventory every x-ray on campus. In order to keep this inventory up-to-date, all x-rays that are purchased must be approved by Radiation Safety in the PeopleSoft program. This allows us to ensure that our records are as up-to-date as possible.

Because x-rays can produce radiation it is very critical that all operators have read and understood the Operating Procedures and Safety Manual. There are four individual manuals for the x-ray registrations that Radiation Safety manage.

  • CTRC X-ray Safety Manual – PDF
  • UTHSCSA X-ray Safety Manual – PDF
  • UT Medicine X-ray Safety Manual – PDF
  • UHS X-ray Safety Manual – PDF
