LABORATORY SAFETY & HAZARDOUS WASTE GENERATOR’S
COURSE TRAINING SCHEDULE
September 2009 – December 2009
Instructors: Rebecca Bloodworth & Michael S. Gilmer – Environmental Health & Safety
This is a full one-hour & 25 minute course designed specifically for UT Health Science Center at San Antonio Faculty, Clinical, Research and Facilities Management Staff who work with hazardous chemicals / materials in the laboratory work environment, but open to all UT Health Science Center at San Antonio & UHS employees and volunteer staff. The first part of the course covers the classification of hazardous chemicals and gases used here at UT Health Science Center at San Antonio, and our policies and procedures for their safe handling, use, storage and emergency response guidelines. The second part of the course covers waste disposal and recycling procedures for spent chemical, biological, and radioactive hazardous materials.
New employees (including transfers) are required to attend this training within 90 days of initial assignment to duties that place them at risk of exposure to hazardous chemicals / materials during handling, use, or waste disposal. Current employees are encouraged to attend as a refresher, or as a supplement to specific hazardous chemical / chemical hygiene / hazardous waste operations training as required by Texas DSHS/TCEQ and OSHA/EPA.
