The Biological Safety Division provides expertise and consultation on issues related to biological safety with the goal of maintaining a safe workplace, preventing environmental contamination and complying with applicable federal, state and local requirements.

Services provided:

  • Support the Institutional Biosafety Committee and Infection Policy and Education Committee.
  • Research protocol review: infectious agents/recombinant DNA.
  • Training in Basic Biosafety and Basic Bloodborne Pathogens.
  • Biological Safety Cabinet Certification program.
  • Clinical/laboratory safety evaluations.
  • Administration of Select Agent Program/Biosafety Level 3 facilities.
  • Maintain UTHSCSA Exposure Control Plan and sharps injury log.
