Radiation Safety Division - Basic X-Ray Radiation Safety Course

TRAINING COURSE SCHEDULE

Instructors: Christy Shriver, Robert O. Moreno - Radiation Safety Division Environmental Health & Safety

 

This course is a one hour course designed specifically for UTHSCSA personnel working with radiation producing machines such as X-ray units, diffraction units, electron microscopes, veterinary diagnostic units, C-arms, therapy units. This includes all persons working with radiation producing machines, i.e., faculty, staff, students, and volunteers. Training should be received within the first three months of working with a radiation producing machine.

 

The topics covered by the course include radiation characteristics, time, distance shielding, regulatory requirements, worker dose limits, declared pregnant workers, PPE, operator credentials, annual calibration, general public dose, general operating precautions, interlocks, required actions by users, security of units, accidents, and emergency response.
