Radiation Safety Division - Basic Dental Radiation Safety Course

TRAINING COURSE SCHEDULE

This course is a one-hour course designed specifically for UTHSCSA Dental personnel working with radiation producing x-ray machines such as panoramic units, intra-oral units and cephalometric units. This includes all persons working with the x-ray units, and taking x-rays of patients, i.e., faculty, staff, students, and volunteers. Training should be received within the first three months of working with a radiation producing machine.

The topics covered by the course include radiation characteristics, time, distance, shielding, worker limits, declared pregnant worker, credentials, general requirements, individual unit requirements, PPE's, processor requirements, operator safety procedures, security, and x-ray and research protocols.
