TRAINING SCHEDULE
January – December 2009
Instructor: Valerie Fey – Environmental Health & Safety
This is a 1 hour course designed specifically for UT Health Science Center at San Antonio research faculty, staff, and students but is open to all UT Health Science Center at San Antonio employees, students and volunteer staff. It satisfies both the NIH and CDC annual biosafety training requirements outlined in the current edition of Biosafety in the Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories.
New employees (including transfer employees) are required to attend this training prior to initial assignment to duties that place them at risk of exposure to infectious agents. Current employees, students and volunteers should attend this class if working with or supervising individuals working with any of the following:
The training is required annually, within one year of their previous training date. Non-UT Health Science Center at San Antonio employees must also receive additional training in their respective employer’s Exposure Control Plan.
This course is equivalent to the web-based Safety – Basic Biological Safety Course offered through the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio Knowledge Centre at https://kc.uthscsa.edu/kc/login.asp
Employees have the option of taking the web-based course or attending the classroom training.
Note: Individuals working with patients or primates or any of their blood, body fluids, tissues must also take the Basic Bloodborne Pathogens training. Bloodborne Pathogen training is also required for individuals working with human cell lines.
NOTE: This training DOES NOT SATISFY DOT (49 CFR 172.700)/IATA/ICAO training requirements for shipping HAZARDOUS MATERIALS (HM-126)/DANGEROUS GOODS such as class 6 - INFECTIOUS SUBSTANCES or class 9 - DRY ICE. For more information on Shipping training see: Transportation of Dangerous Goods
