NIH offers training awards at various career levels:
Undergraduate, Graduate and Medical Students, Predoctoral, Postdoctoral.
NIH's Research
Training Opportunities webpage offers information on extramural
and intramural training programs as well as career guidance and employment
opportunities. (Extramural opportunities are ones that the training
can be obtained from an institution outside the NIH while Intramural
opportunities are carried out directly at the NIH.)
NIH strongly encourages interested applicants to contact program
officials for guidance or visit Institute's Internet Website in order
to obtain current information about program priorities, research topics
of interest, and policy guidelines.

NIH Extramural Training Mechanisms
National Research Service Award's (NRSA) These are the most
common opportunities to apply for.

NRSA Institutional Research Training
Grants (T32) These are applied for by established principal
investigator then awarded out within the university. The National
Institutes of Health (NIH) will award National Research Service
Award (NRSA) Institutional Training Grants (T32) to eligible institutions
to develop or enhance research training opportunities for individuals,
selected by the institution, who are training for careers
in specified areas of biomedical, behavioral, and clinical research.

NRSA Individual Postdoctoral Fellowships
(F32) Individual NRSAs are available at the predoctoral,
postdoctoral, and senior fellowship levels. Not all of the Institutes
and Centers support all of the various NRSA fellowships. Prospective
fellowship applicants should contact the probable funding Institute
or Center prior to preparing an application. Information on contacts
can be found in the program announcement and on page 19 of the
PHS 416-1 instructions. By the time of award, individuals must
be citizens or non-citizen nationals of the United States, or
must have been lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent
residence. Before an NRSA postdoctoral fellowship award can be
activated, the individual must have received a Ph.D., M.D., D.O.,
D.C., D.D.S., D.V.M., O.D., D.P.M., Sc.D., Eng.D., Dr. P.H., D.N.S.,
N.D., Pharm.D., D.S.W., Psy.D., or equivalent doctoral degree.

Wave - to reach an electronic network that contains the online version
of Science Magazine and an online career center to help plan your research

SPIN Funding Database
This database contains over 6,000 funding opportunities (federal and
non-federal), and is updated daily. Search using keywords, applicant
type, sponsor name, and other fields. The comprehensive HELP feature
will answer most questions on using this information source. Please
note that this database is only accessible by UTHSCSA users. |
