IACUC Protocol Review Process
Regular** -- goes to a Veterinarian, the 2 assigned reviewers assigned for that month, Chair/Vice-Chair
- New projects which do not fall under full committee review
- Most protocols that are Class A and B1
- Identical to protocols closed out more than 1 year ago
- Class C (transplantable tumors) for Rodents
Facilitated** -- goes to a Veterinarian, Chair/Vice-Chair
- Progress Reports which did not receive FCR in the last year
- Identical to protocols that are active or closed out (not more than 1 year ago).
- Modifications which are a minor change to the protocol (adding a previously approved procedure, minor changes in procedure, adding a species)
- Increase in number of animals forms
FCR (Full Committee Review) -- goes to a Veterinarian, 2 assigned reviewers, Chair/Vice-Chair
- New B2, C and D protocols which involve the following:
- primates, goats, pigs (or minipigs), calves, dogs, cats or rabbits.
- Mice, rats, hamsters and guinea pigs which are class D or C which are not checked as transplantable tumors
- All death as an endpoint (i.e. LD50 studies, aging studies)
- All multiple survival surgery studies
- Tumor burden studies
- Modifications which are a major change to the protocol (addition of a new study, new procedures)
** Anything submitted to the IACP office may go FCR if requested by a member of the IACUC, regardless of whether or not they were the assigned reviewer of that protocol.
*Protocol may be returned to the Principal Investigator for Revisions at any stage of the Review Progress
